Suicide Warning Signs
At one point or another, most of us have probably heard others speak about two of the most basic warning signs of someone who is seriously contemplating suicide. A handful of the more obvious, sometimes almost blatant, signs are:
- Talking about suicide
- Giving away prized possessions
- Sudden unexplained closure of uncompleted business
- A sudden and for the most part unexplainable calm possibly even happy, outgoing demeanor in someone who otherwise is always known to be very depressed, down, negative, etc.
These more obvious personally garnered suicide warning signals complement a very nicely inclusive list of many more signals that was originally part of the Befrienders International website currently being maintained by UK Samaritans.
It is my suggestion that surfers read through and get to know these suicide warning signs not just because you might recognize symptoms in others but also because you might see one or more of these symptoms in yourself. It's so easy to slide but oh, so very hard to climb back up the slippery slope.. Being fully, consciously aware of what to look for is a tremendous place to start..
After you have paged through and read the Samaritans' Befrienders site, you might want to give their Suicide Myths Test a shot. I'll do something I've never done, and that's help you cheat on the test. The hint is that you would be » FALSE «« to think any of them are true. (Only caving in just this once because I know the feeling of not wanting to hear even just one more negative regarding ANYTHING, even if it does include some really good, quick test like that of the Samaritans..)
