One was One too many..
A number of things have changed in the five years since my experience within the local mental health care system here in Northwest Georgia.. There are two constants, though, that have never changed throughout:
- I sure didn't ask to go through the experience..
- I wouldn't wish that experience on your or my worst enemy..
In seeking some form, any form of safe, healthy ventings regarding the same, the name Six. Almost Seven.. came nearly instantly to mind once the Internet became a viable option of support and expression.. The name originally came from numbers reflected within some of the investigative Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) articles on our local mental health care system.. A couple of ventures into community service board meetings early on showed that this website name was sadly outdated faster than it could become that fleeting twinkle of imagination once upon a not so long ago..
All of Life's adventures considered, it still hasn't been but just a very few short months ago that I purely by accident found out that I was not the only consumer whose mental health care had been woefully mismanaged by that particular mental health care system in our county and surrounding.. At that time, the original numbers publicly available were that six people had reportedly taken their own lives. Therein lies the Six.
Almost Seven is just as it implies. That initially reported statistic of Six was Almost Seven.. Something tells me the numbers may be far higher than we will ever know for sure....
